Deep from the mists of the Brighton indie music scene rises Elle Milano. You could be tempted to dismiss this three piece as yet another generic indie pop creation, but their debut album 'Acres Of Dead Space Cadets' begs to differ.The striking album artwork gives a taster of the dark yet fun music that is inside, and with tracks like the opener 'Laughing All The Way To The Plank' this is exactly what you can expect - good, clean, slightly-sinister fun.The album runs rapidly through a wide repertoire, from the heartfelt piano tinged 'I Know It's Good But I'm Playing It Down' to the guitar-driven 'My Brother, The Astronaut' that make you want to sweep that fringe out of your eyes and have a bit of a shuffle on the dance floor. 'This Is How It Ends' also stands out, somehow reminiscent of 'Song For Mutya'.This album is a welcome step away from the 'indie-by-numbers' currently overwhelming the music scene, not least because Adam Crisp can actually sing! With vocal styles ranging from Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinard to Alex 'crazy screaming guy' Pennie of The Automatic, Crisp demonstrates an impressive range that really brings together the eclectic use of instruments, with his talent shining through on the Maccabees-esque intro of 'Curiosity Killed The Pop Star' that also contains a sharp tongue akin to The Horrors.
